My career in grooming began in 1988, where I trained in a championship Terrier Show Kennel, which involved preparing Airedale Terriers, Wire Fox Terriers and Lakeland Terriers for the show ring. I completed my training at a very well-regarded school in Chesterfield, attended the Animal Welfare College to cover First Aid, City & Guilds written component (Distinction), and to deepen my understanding of different breeds and their coats, I regularly went 'back-stage' at championship shows to observe and chat to exhibitors to gain tips and knowledge.
Apart from the actual haircuts, I have always had a keen interest in the health and behaviour effects of my job, so I take a broad, holistic view with every dog I have booked in. I tailor shampoos, allow clients to wait (if their dog is anxious, particularly), and aim to build a relationship with both humans and canine clients!
Skin Issues and Allergies have exploded since the 90s. This is an area I continue to educate myself on and have successfully helped some clients' dogs heal some really problematic hair loss and itching using 100% natural supplements and nutrition advice. If you would like a chat about anything grooming, coat or skin-related, please get in touch and book a free consultation. - Sarah
